So, why not have light bulbs appear over our kids' heads? I went to Dollar Tree to pick up some of the battery run lights and I bought 4. Well, only 1 of those works now, so I decided to go get some at Menards. I got these awesome LED lights that the kids just push to turn on. They were only $10 for 4 of them. Not much more than the Dollar Tree and they are really sturdy!
Here is what they do. One child reads their page while the other child listens. After that child is done reading, the listener turns on the 'light bulb' and tells what they heard the reader read.
Here's a video of 2 of my kids showing this in action.
I love using these lights. The kids are much more engaged because they want to turn the light on! Score!
I also use the lights when I read stories to the little munchkins. I turn the light on when I am thinking. I also pass the light around when I want to practice a strategy. I'll have a video of that for you another day. Have a wonderful week!
That is just too cute. What a great way to get students to actually discuss what they read with each other!

I love the idea of the lights. I am definitely going to try it out when I am thinking out loud for my students. They like to jump in instead of listening to what I am saying.
