Check Out the Easi-Speak & Win One for Your Class!

I have had the awesome privilege of trying out an extremely innovative educational tool.  The Easi-Speak from Learning Resources absolutely ROCKS! I have so many ideas about how to use it, but I thought I would start with this one.

One of my little cuties had drawn the most beautiful picture of a bunny rabbit. I asked her to write a story about it, but she was a little hesitant, so I asked her to tell me the story first. Well, she told the cutest story to go with it! So then I had one of those 'ah-ha' moments and snatched up my Easi-Speak! I showed her how to record the story. After she was finished, I showed her how to play the story back. Let the writing begin! She began listening to a little and then writing it on her paper . . . listening a little more, then writing it on her paper . . . I think you get the pattern!

Here she is at work!

Before I knew it, she had the entire story down on paper and ready to be edited! She was so excited to have a 'published' story so quickly! What a great way to get those kids writing!

Have you ever used the Easi-Speak? How do you use it?
If not, how would you use it in your classroom?
Just click on the Read More at the end of this post, and leave a comment and your email address and you could win one to use with your little munchkins in your classroom!

Be sure to visit Learning Resources on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Pinterest! Aren't they awesome for offering such a neat gadget? Visiting these sites and following them is a great way to say THANKS!

  3. It is kind of ironic that I stumbled upon you blog and the Easi-Speak. I am a first year teacher, 2nd grade teacher (was just hired in January to take over, actually!) Last night I was filing out paperwork for one of my little loves who is very behind and will be receiving special ed services as soon as this long paperwork process is over! Today I sat down to write lessons, and I was thinking of my little kiddo. He has a wonderful imagination, but when it comes to writing - it stops there. He struggles with his fine motor and writing skills (along with other academic areas). Just like you showed in the blog, I would use this specially for him, to write his stories. What a wonderful idea to have him say it first, and then play it back to write it! Often with his stories, he struggles to write it because by the time he gets a few words/sentence down, he forgets the rest of it! My little guy (and the rest of the class!) would totally love this! Keep up the great blog - not only do you educate the future, but also the others that touch the loves of the future!!!

  10. It would be so amazing to win this for use in my classroom! As a Model Technology classroom, we are really excited about 21st century tools and learning! I had never even heard of this until I saw this post! I can just imagine my students' reactions to this cool little tool! I immediately thought of using it for all kinds of fluency practice, which is really huge in our district now. What a confidence booster this could be! I'm thinking of reader's theatre, as well! I teach in a disadvantaged area, and my students would be so blessed to have one of these at their disposal! I hope Megrew's Crew wins!!

  18. I do a lot of poetry in my 2nd grade classroom and the students love it! However, sometimes they do not understand when I ask them to use more expression. I could see myself using this in order to have them listen to their reading voice and discussing how to change it to make it more expressive. I also love your idea of using it to help out with writing!

    Thank you for the opportunity!

  28. I am a literacy coach and technology coach for three primary buildings! Boy could I put one of those easi- teaches to use! I would love to try one out and show my teachers what a great tool it could be. I bet I could even convince them to order some for their rooms next year! Seeing is believing! Love your idea! My mind is popping with other ideas. Even simple things like adapted test, or book reading with QRC codes!

  35. I am a special ed teacher and I think I could find so many uses for this! I have students who struggle to get their thoughts down on paper and would normally need a scribe, but this would be great to help them be successful without an adult. It would also be great to record test questions so they could hear them read aloud. They could also use them for fluency practice. Those just came to me, but I'm sure I could think of more. What a great tool for the classroom!

  36. In Common Core Speaking and Listening 2.5 students are to "create audio recordings of stories or poems." So I would love to use it to help students do just that! I heard that you can transfer the recording to your computer as well!

  40. My class sounds familiar to many of the others. I have students who love to tell stories, but they are very reluctant writers. This would be a great way for them to get the stories told and then work on the writing part. I can also see it being a good way for students to listen to themselves read and work on fluency skills. I'd love to include this in my centers with my whisper phones. (I made my phones using PVC pipe. They cost me less than $4 each and the kids love them as well!)

  41. This is great for students who forget what they just wrote! I work with small groups of students who would benefit from this greatly. It would also be used to help students with their fluency! Thanks for sharing.

  44. I can think of many uses in my first grade class. I love your idea of using it to encourage writing with those kids who tell a great story but never get it on paper. It would be great for fluency and just to work on getting up in front of others to speak. I have a few shy kids this year and something like this would encou.rage them to speak up a little more.

  47. I have a little one who is being evaluated for possibly having Asperger's Syndrome, but has pretty severe dyslexia. He struggles so much with writing, telling time, repeating simple oral directions and explaining things when put on the spot. He even struggles with retelling recent events. This tool would give him the freedom that he yearns for to be able to communicate the way he so badly wants to and act as a life preserver in this wave of education he is so negatively affected by! (As far as all of the "requirements" we have for each lovey...)
