Spelling Lists That Make Sense...To Me Anyway!

I thought that I had written a blog post about Spelling That Makes Sense, but I can't find it anywhere, so I thought I would fill you in.

A friend of mine took their first grade words and added words that followed the skills they were working on that week. I told her she should compile it for other teachers, but she wasn't interested. She told me to go for it, so I did. Here are the way the lists look for the kids when they get them.

The teacher's list looks like this. The words that are given on the test follow the same pattern that are being worked on for the week. As the year progresses, high frequency words from previous weeks are added to the test.

I also have a set of spelling lists for 2nd graders that follow the spelling patterns that we use with our reading series. You can see from the 2nd grade lists, how more words are added as the year moves on. The dictation sentence is also not given to the students. They are supposed to make words with their patterns or the no excuse words to study for it.

This is what the test paper looks like and they have test papers for 15, 18, and 20 words.

So, if you think these Spelling lists make sense to you, just click  to get a {1st grade} or {2nd grade} set!

Thanks!
