April Fool's Day Teaching Resources
April Fool's Day is this Friday! It's the first day of our Spring Break so the kids won't be in school. I think this is probably for the best, but do love some good pranks. April Fool's Day is a day that you might not have on your radar or maybe you don't have any activities to do for this day. I wanted to do a post about April Fool's Day and activities that you can quickly add into your plans.
April Fool's Day Activities Print and Digital
An easy writing activity for April Fool's Day is to have students write jokes, idioms, or alliteration! Check out this website on writing tongue twisters using Alliteration for April Fool's Day.
Give each child a ‘spinner’ page and paper clip. Then kids spin a paper clip to find a 'name', 'who', 'where', 'with what' and 'describing word' to use in their sentence. Kids write the words from the spinner in the correct boxes on the ‘sloppy copy’ graphic organizer planning sheet. They then write a sentence using words from the boxes. The describing words make the sentences more interesting and colorful. After the kids finish, check the sentence on the sloppy copy and provide a final page for the published sentence. The kids illustrate their sentences and then share them with the class.
Some books to use for April Fool's Day with Alliteration or just good tongue twisters!
1. Fox in Socks picked this one because you could incorporate a sock day at school for this fun read. Any Dr. Seuss book is a tongue twister, but some are longer than others and are easier for students to read. I think this one is a better option for April Fools Day!
2. Animalia- Hands down this is my MUST have for Alliteration. Any age can relate to writing for this text. I have my younger learners pick words that are going to be a little easier to work with. Maybe we will do a class one if kids are super young. I LOVE this one for older kids because it is a challenge to see what verbs and adjectives they can come up! Have them work in pairs, in small groups, or individually Makes a cute class book if they all pick an animal.
An3. Princess Prunella and the Purple Peanut- The "p" repetition is a fun read and is the story os a pampered princess who lives in a pink palace with her pinheaded parents, her three plump pussy cats, and her prize puppy dog.
April Fool's Day Mini Digital Escape
An easy activity for April Fool's Day is this interactive digital escape. It has idioms for students to match, riddles to solve, and games to play. The mini version is great because it is a ONE lock escape and takes less time to complete than longer escapes. A great introduction to escapes if your class hasn't experienced one yet. I like this one because it is a NO prep situation! You just share the link and assign it to students.

Literacy Station Ideas and FREEBIES!
Only 2.5 weeks until Thanksgiving! How is that possible?! I wanted to focus this week on changing up those Literacy Stations or Word Work. I know I need to freshen up things, especially during the holidays to keep kids engaged while I am conferencing with students. I NEED students to be able to do activities independently or work with a partner without a million questions.
I have pulled together some EASY and ENGAGING ideas that can be done now to work into your stations as an independent, partner, or whole group activity.
I find that these activities are engaging for students because they do have to think a little harder. It's easier for them because it's the alphabet and chances are you have an alphabet strip on their desk or around the room as an already built-in tool to help them!
Use the ABC to the 2nd letter as a motivational tool that if they get done they can level up and do the Holiday ABC Order to the 3rd letter! Or have students make a list of holiday words (keep it small to around 10) and then put them in order or have the class collaborate on a list for that week leading up to the holidays! An easy change up and it gets the students involved.
Alliteration Spinners
Kids LOVE these spinners! You can add a few books for them to look at when they get finished or use them as a whole class read-aloud prior to this station if you haven't taught it at all.
See below for some suggestions.
I have used alliterations to make a whole class book. Each student does their own sentence and then illustrates it. I then bind using the comb binder at school or you can easily put them in a cheap 3 ring binder (use a protective sleeve if you want them to last longer).

Alliteration Spinners Were a HUGE Hit!
I gave the kids a paper clip to use as a spinner and they were ready to roll . . . or spin I guess I should say!
There are 5 different spinners on each letter page to give the kids ideas for their sentences.
I decided to do this as a whole class activity, but it could definitely be used in a small group or at stations. Here's the way I got going.
- Give each child a 'spinner' page and paper clip.

Amazing Alliteration & Fun Freebies Too!
My name is Hilary and it's been over a week since my last blog post . . . Boy, time sure flies, especially this time of the year!
Anyway, I wanted to show you a few of the masterpieces that my kids made this week with my {Alliteration Pack}. They absolutely LOVED all of the pictures to choose from. Some of the kids made sentences and some even wrote little mini-stories! Check these out!

Alliteration Alive!
I'm so excited to have this alliteration pack finished . . .I started it over the summer and wanted to use it in my class, so I got'er done!
Here's how it works. The kids just follow the directions on the instruction card. The cards are color coded to match the chart.
The kids arrange the cards to make a sentence. I have an adjective ABC book that they use as well to describe their nouns. They then illustrate their sentences. (Yes, I know the picture doesn't match the cards above. :)
We then put all the pages together to make an Alliteration ABC Book! FUN!
